KUKA robot prices: used vs new

How much does a KUKA robot cost? A used KUKA robot with controller costs from £8,000 at Robot Store. A KR 210, KR 240 or KR 360 costs about £9,500 – £15,000, and a KR 1000 TITAN £48,000. A new one typically costs £20,000 – £150,000+ depending on payload, reach and controller, so buying used can save up to 80%.

What affects the price of a KUKA robot?

Payload and reach

Bigger, longer-reach robots cost more. A KR 210 costs less than a KR 360, and a KR 1000 TITAN costs the most.

Controller

KRC4 and KRC5 robots cost more than KRC2 ED05 robots, but add EtherCAT, PROFINET and SafeOperation.

Condition and refurbishment

A fully reconditioned robot with new batteries, grease and worn parts replaced costs more than an as-is robot, but carries far less risk.

Tooling and integration

The robot is only part of the cost. Grippers, weld packages, guarding and programming add to the total project price.

Refurbished robots

Why buy used KUKA robots?

A used robot is one of the most cost-effective ways to automate. You get a proven industrial robot arm for a fraction of the new price, usually from stock rather than after a long factory lead time.

  • More affordable than new. Lower capital costs for SMEs, start-ups, and expansion projects.
  • Proven reliability. KUKA arms operate 24/7 in automotive plants, making them ideal for welding, handling, and palletizing.
  • Quick delivery. Ready for refurbishment without the long lead times associated with new robots.
  • Spare parts availability. Motors, drives, cables, and controller boards sourced from our KUKA parts inventory.
  • Ready to retrofit. Incorporate new tooling, vision systems, safety measures, and PLC integration.
  • Sustainable. Reusing a robot minimizes waste and reduces embodied carbon.
  • UK or Worldwide Delivery. Let us know where you would like it delivered to receive a quote.

New or used KUKA robot?

Many manufacturers mix both: new robots on critical, high-speed lines and used robots on secondary or flexible lines, to get the best return on investment.

Choose a new robot for

  • High-speed, high-precision production
  • 24/7 high-volume automotive or aerospace lines
  • The latest KRC5 software and features
  • A full manufacturer warranty

Choose a used robot for

  • Lower investment and faster payback
  • Standard, repetitive automation tasks
  • Palletising, machine tending and welding
  • Proven models with easy spare parts
  • Secondary or flexible production lines

KUKA controllers

KUKA controllers: KRC2 vs KRC4 vs KRC5

Every robot arm needs its matching controller, and the controller affects the price, programming and connectivity of the robot. Most used robots come with a KRC2 ED05 or a KRC4. The KRC3 was a short-lived transition model and is now rare.

Legacy · Lowest cost

KRC2 ED05 controller

Windows XP-based controller with the KCP2 teach pendant and KSS 5.x software. Very common on refurbished robots and the cheapest way into KUKA automation.

Best for

  • Budget cells and retrofits
  • Palletising and handling
  • Replacing an existing KRC2 robot
Industry standard

KRC4 controller

The most widely used KUKA controller today, with the smartPAD, KSS 8.x, EtherCAT inside the cabinet and PROFINET or EtherNet/IP to your PLC. SafeOperation is available as an option.

Best for

  • Welding and machine tending
  • Automotive and high-precision work
  • Modern PLC and safety integration
Latest generation

KRC5 controller

KUKA’s current, more compact and energy-efficient controller, built for Industry 4.0 connectivity, vision and digital factories. Supplied with new robots.

Best for

  • New, future-ready automation
  • Connected smart factories
  • Vision-guided applications

Which KUKA controller should you choose?

On older systems or a tight budget, a KRC2 robot is still a sound choice for palletising and handling. For most new projects, the KRC4 gives the best balance of price, performance and support. The KRC4 compact suits small robots such as the KR AGILUS, and the KRC5 is the choice for future-ready, connected automation.

FAQs

KUKA robots: frequently asked questions

A used KUKA robot with controller costs from £8,000 ex VAT at Robot Store. A KR 210 costs about £9,500 (KRC2) to £12,000 (KR QUANTEC PRIME with KRC4), heavy-payload KR 360 and KR 500 robots £15,000, and the KR 1000 TITAN £48,000. A new one typically costs £20,000 to £150,000+, and a complete robot cell costs more. See the price table.

Usually up to 80% less. For example, a used KUKA KR 210 with controller costs £9,500 to £12,000 from our stock, while a new KR QUANTEC robot of the same size typically costs £70,000 to £120,000.

Yes, when they are refurbished properly. They are designed for 24/7 automotive production. A reconditioned robot is inspected, repaired and tested, with worn parts replaced, before it is shipped. Reliability depends on the quality of the refurbishment and the previous use, so buy from a supplier that tests every robot.

A reconditioned (refurbished) robot is a used machine that has been inspected, repaired and tested to meet set performance standards. Worn parts are replaced so that it operates reliably and meets its original factory specification.

Yes. Every robot in our finder is sold with its controller, either a KRC2 ED05 or a KRC4. The teach pendant, cables and software included are confirmed on your quote.

Yes. The warranty terms depend on the robot and the level of refurbishment, and we confirm them in writing on your quote.

Not much. A refurbished robot goes through a full reconditioning process that brings it back to the standard of its production year, so the hours it has run don’t define its condition.

We keep robots in secure storage and refurbish them once an order and deposit are received, so we can’t say in advance which unit will be supplied. Every robot is fully refurbished before delivery, so its age doesn’t affect its performance.

The KRC2 is KUKA’s older Windows XP-based controller, with the KCP2 pendant and KSS 5.x software. The KRC4 is today’s industry standard, with the smartPAD, KSS 8.x, EtherCAT and modern fieldbuses such as PROFINET and EtherNet/IP. KRC2 robots cost less, while KRC4 robots are easier to connect to modern PLCs and safety systems. See KUKA controllers.

The KUKA KR 210, from the KR 2000 series and the KR QUANTEC range. Its 210 kg payload and 2.7 m reach suit spot welding, handling and machine tending, which is why so many are used in car plants and so many are available refurbished.

The KR 1000 TITAN family is KUKA’s largest range of serial robots. The KR 1000 TITAN we stock handles 1,000 kg with 3,202 mm reach, and KUKA’s palletising version handles up to 1,300 kg.

They are programmed in KRL (KUKA Robot Language) on the teach pendant, with WorkVisual for configuration and KUKA.Sim for offline simulation. We offer programming services and training courses.

Yes. Reconditioned robots use the same KRL language and interfaces as new robots, so they can connect to your PLC, safety system, vision and conveyors. We also provide full robot integration.

Yes. Email us the model, payload and reach you need. We source used robots regularly, and the finder also shows the closest matches we have in stock.

The same as a new robot: regular inspections, gearbox oil and grease changes, battery replacement and controller backups, following KUKA’s maintenance schedule. We supply KUKA spare parts and service support.
